1. Open the locking lever (D) on the base.

1. Open the locking lever (D) on the base.. _/ Y& B( G- k, N& [
2. Thread the depth adjustment ring (B) onto the motor until the ring is about halfway between
& u" c e( U! Kthe top and bottom of the motor. Insert the motor into the base by aligning the groove on
4 |6 }( _0 B: w: \; Cthe motor (H) with the guide pins (X) on the base. Slide the motor down until the depth
+ D: v; p' E8 K: q4 S3 Iadjustment ring snaps into the quick release latches (A).

4. Be sure that the trigger switch (N) is released and the trigger lock button (O) is in the

5. Unlock and disconnect the detachable cordset (L) from the motor.

7. Connect the short cord (AA) from top of D-Handle to the motor as shown. Be sure the cord q1 j- K( i! i' x

You should not be able to move the motor in the base when the locking lever is clamped. To
& H! r& C/ ] d$ Eadjust the locking lever’s clamping force, open the locking lever (D) and turn the nut (Y) in
0 e6 a8 b' G7 L6 P8 L0 F5 m. i: ?small increments. Turning the nut clockwise tightens the lever while turning the nut counterclockwise P+ U" m& n8 \ `, H
loosens the lever.
" k' D0 F4 B/ t& M2 m6 f; kCentering the Subbase (Fig. 5)
2 r0 A4 M- q2 d$ C& p* qCAUTION: Turn the router off and disconnect it from the power supply.3 j- h6 h# ^6 D# c* C+ y7 q
If you need to adjust, change, or replace the subbase, a centering tool is provided. The centering3 ^: L) o* ~: U' {
tool consists of a cone and a pin. To adjust the subbase, follow the steps below.* R! X4 w$ o) S: M* T3 V- v& S: a
1. Loosen but do not remove the subbase screws so that the subbase can move freely.
# K9 {& B* u( ?# z8 |8 l2. Insert the pin into the collet and tighten the collet nut.
/ C& u% `) F/ n4 N9 _3. Insert the motor into the base and clamp the locking lever on the base.
7 ?* b7 L/ b$ d" K4. Place the cone on the pin and lightly press down on cone until it stops as shown. This will
7 G+ |* r! F1 T- U" Ocenter the subbase.7 {0 o/ s- L& M
5. While holding down on the cone, tighten the subbase screws.

Knob Locations7 F( j* @% k$ T$ B6 |% F: m7 J7 b
Grip the D-Handle with one hand and place the other hand on the the knob. The D-Handle
/ E. D% @6 j* w3 L! prouter base has two positions for the knob to accommodate right or left hand use.
$ w5 y. {; s3 H+ J+ x* TCAUTION: Use both hands at all times to maintain control.
) L F' T; O: C$ u6 \* {" @Trigger Lock" b* k6 _# G- `- r6 ]1 l
To lock the trigger, pull the trigger switch (N) completely, then push the trigger lock button (O).0 n% A$ y2 Z+ {% p: w0 J
The router will remain on after you remove your finger from the trigger. To unlock the trigger lock5 F) s/ J0 M( P; J2 D# ?# b
button, pull the trigger and release. The lock button will pop out and the router will turn off.$ H- R/ ?4 s: ?; n1 I: x; ]( B8 B
Bit Installation and Removal (Fig. 6)
: ]+ T3 ~; ^) \ x0 E- b6 iCAUTION: Turn the router off and disconnect it from the power supply.! O, F$ V R: K; @0 i5 r
1. To install a bit, insert the round shank of the desired router bit into the loosened collet as far
/ q3 d* c; m, E0 Z. j! G1 Xas it will go and then pull it out about 1/16". Using the wrench(es) provided, turn the collet$ K& K% m1 j/ k+ r' f4 s
nut (J) clockwise while holding the spindle shaft with the second wrench. [On the DW618,
. _& h$ a9 t1 P% |) ydepress the spindle lock button (I) to hold the spindle shaft.]( t/ a% q5 u' a
2. To remove a bit, hold the spindle shaft while turning the collet nut (J) counterclockwise with
1 f1 p% }) _9 p% n) l1 L6 I5 Fthe wrench provided. [Hold the spindle by depressing the spindle lock button (I) on the( w5 c( I- m% P- {" F) n
DW618.] The self-releasing collet nut will turn approximately 3/4 of a turn and then become! G: j0 n0 @1 G
tight again. At this point the bit cannot be removed. Continue turning the collet nut counterclockwise./ K5 ~4 z& V9 `3 B& f6 K
This lifts the collet, allowing the bit’s removal.
! d" t$ B8 L b4 D8 kCollets( Y" d1 F( \! F2 \
NOTE: Never tighten the collet without first installing a router bit in it. Tightening an empty collet,! S) [; A/ z! `
even by hand, can damage the collet.
8 s5 o8 W+ X2 b$ |4 P1 eTwo collets are included with the motor: one 1/4" and one 1/2". To change collet sizes, unscrew
- R7 P, _; h" `7 othe collet assembly as described above. Install the desired collet by reversing the
( H/ @: c7 `% E$ X5 o' xprocedure.The collet and the collet nut are connected. Do not attempt to remove the collet from
/ F! A9 ]0 x' O9 S8 \/ Fthe collet nut.

CAUTION: Turn the router off and disconnect it from the power supply.

3. Open the locking lever (D) and turn the depth adjustment ring (B) until the bit just touches

lowers the cutting head.
& i- k; D2 r# @. C2 w0 o4. Move the adjustable scale clockwise so that 0 on the scale is located exactly above the* L8 x5 Z! I! P& _3 ^
pointer (Z) on the base.5 o* P u1 i2 U, C0 D9 t
5. Turn the depth adjustment ring along with the adjustable scale to the desired depth. Note
0 K% A: ]9 ]7 m$ x2 @, g! F/ S9 dthat each mark on the adjustable scale represents a depth change of 1/64" or .015"7 t$ X9 p# Q& ], @4 W4 `- i

A parallel fence (DW6913) is available from your local retailer or service center at extra cost.
