I received this saw as a Christmas present in 2010. After setting it up I notice a number of issues with its accuracy. First, the rip fence indicators did not have enough range of movement to set them accurate, even after moving the front rail back and forth. I ended up having to modify the plastic indicators with iron files and drills to give them the range I needed for accuracy.# G- M k' e0 k. n" `5 j/ K, f5 q0 ]
Most importantly, the blade cannot be heeled to the miter slots because of the defects with the rear trunnion manufacturing. I was able to square it to about 1/32" and that was all. From the right miter slot, the rear of the blade was this much close than the front of the blade. I told Ridgid of the issue and they told me to bring it back to HD for a refund. I decided to get the same saw because I liked the design and I thought it was just a defect with that unit. Wrong! Same issue with the new unit. After days of trying to think up a solution and not wanting to return it or deal with a technician, I ended up removing the rear trunnion and I used an iron file to open the bolt holes and a lip on the trunnion that came in contact with the cast iron table. This solved the problem and gave me the range of movement I needed to heel the blade... but it was ridiculous that I needed to go through all this to align the blade.$ g9 n* c5 e8 F& M
Also, the saw has about 1/32", if not slightly more, of arbor run-out. I corrected this according to some online tutorials... but again, this was an annoyance.% ]% q3 T8 e7 @ U
Lastly, the blade goes out of alignment when I bring it to 45 degrees. This also can be corrected (online tutorials again) but the solution requires calibration equipment and washers filed to specific thicknesses.
. M; w5 ?% } }. vI wrote the company over a month ago to inform them of the trunnion issue and I've received no response. I threatened to post my experiences on this saw if they didn't respond, so I'm keeping my word.
